A gift in your Will is the greatest commitment you can make.
Types of bequests
There are four main types of bequests a donor can leave in their will.
This is the remainder of the donor’s estate after first leaving gifts to their loved ones. A residual bequest will keep up with inflation.
This is a gift expressed as a percentage or fraction of the donor’s estate. These gifts aren’t influenced by inflation. Donors can leave a percentage of either the residue of their estate or a percentage of the entire estate.
Pecuniary or Specific
This is a specified gift which can be money, property or stocks and shares.
Whole Estate or Asset
This comprises the donor’s entire estate and is usually left by those without family or other preferred beneficiaries, or those wanting to achieve something very significant with their gift.
We recommend that you discuss your wishes with family and loved ones.
Wording of your Will
Below is the most effective wording to include a gift to Miracle Assistance Dogs Incorporated in your Will.
“I give, free of all duties and taxes *(____________) to Miracle Assistance Dogs Incorporated (ABN 59 004 679 977) of 19 Charles St, East Maitland, NSW 2323 for its general purposes. An authorised receipt from Miracle Assistance Dogs Incorporated will be a sufficient discharge for the executor(s) or trustee.”
• The whole (or ...%) of the residue of my estate.
• The whole (or ...%) of my estate.
• The sum of $(amount).
• (Details of a particular asset — such as shares or property).
So, whether large or small a gift in your Will is greatly valued because it ensures that the Miracles this institution creates continues to support adults and children living with disabilities into the future.
